The Epiphone story is an American story, like many, beginning somewhere else and though hard work and invention, continuing in the United States. Epi Stathopoulo was the son of Anastasios, a Greek dreamer and instrument maker who brought his family and his business to American by way of Turkey and the mandolin trade in the 1870’s. But soon after they were on American soil, banjos and guitars emerged as their best sellers as Epiphone grew popular among great musicians of every era. Jazz master George Van Eps, country star Hank Garland and bluesman John Lee Hooker played Epiphone. Three Beatles played Epiphone. Les Paul worked nights at the Epiphone factory making his famous namesake guitar.
Radiohead and The Strokes carry the descendants of Les Paul’s great creation. They are still some of the most popular models for pros to beginners. So are the bass guitars that Paul McCartney made famous. Hollow body jazz guitars and folk guitars are still great sellers too. Epiphone stays current and popular with current stars by always innovating. They lead the industry with technologies like the ProBucker™ pickup, series-parallel switching, built-in KillSwitch™ pots, the Shadow NanoFlex™ and NanoMag™ pickup systems, and premier acoustic/electric guitars with the eSonic™ preamp. Innovation, star power and over 140 years of passion and experience make Epiphone a great choice for any guitarist.
