Volver a la Montaña (Return to the Mountain) is the second movement of the four-movement suite Islas y Montañas and is based on folk tunes of the Quechua (Inca) people of Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. To invoke the sound of the mountains, trumpets are muted, flutes use harmonics and a bombo (Andes drum) is used. The optional harp part may be played by marimba and vibes or with a synthesizer. (5:50)
