One of the most important pieces to come out of the Second Viennese School, Berg's Violin Concerto is shrouded in tragedy. He dedicated the concerto To the memory of an angel in honor of a friend's daughter who died of polio. Berg himself died in 1935 before hearing a performance of the work or seeing it in print.
