Inspired by Trini Lopez. Recreated for today's guitarist.
The Gibson Custom Murphy Lab 1964 Trini Lopez Standard is the type of guitar that looks great in anyone’s hands. Lopez was a folk musician, but players in all genres have fallen under its spell—from the hard rock of the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, Britpop with Noel Gallagher in Oasis and the hill country blues of Mississippi Fred McDowell. Recreated from original prototypes, this Murphy Lab model gets an Ultra-Light aging for an authentic vintage look. We think the ’64 Trini Lopez Standard is a true standout, and it’s available now at Musician’s Friend.

Every Legend Needs A Good Finish

Master Artisan Tom Murphy is a pioneer in the art of aging guitars. This ’64 Trini Lopez features his reverse-engineered lacquer formula with unique checking patterns. The Ultra Light finish has the least amount of aging—you'll only see minimal signs of play wear.

Historically Authentic Construction

The Trini Lopez is made of 3-ply maple/poplar/maple. The semi-hollow design adds an acoustic element to your notes, and we particularly dig the diamond-shaped soundholes. The mahogany neck accurately captures the feel of a ’60s Gibson. The Indian rosewood fretboard has rolled edges, making it fit in your hand like a well-oiled baseball glove.

Don’t Miss Your Chance to Get in on This Gibson

The ’64 Trini Lopez Standard makes a strong visual statement with its diamond tailpiece and matching inlays. Sonically, it’s just as strong—dual Alnico III Custombuckers produce sweet and warm sounds to girthy growls. With less than 2,000 originally made, it’s difficult to find a vintage Trini Lopez, but this Custom Shop reissue takes you back in time just the same. Available now from Musician’s Friend, it comes with a certificate of authenticity and a reissue Lifton hardshell case.
