A vintage patina brass shell is the foundation for this signature model.
Gretsch Drums is honored to introduce the Keith Carlock Signature Snare Drum. With his rhythmic, musical expression on drums, Keith Carlock has inspired musicians around the globe. Keith has worked with a wide range of artists, such as Steely Dan, Toto, Wayne Krantz, James Taylor, Tal Wilkenfeld, John Mayer, Sting, Chris Botti, and many more. With such an impressive track record, it's easy to see why Gretsch was so thrilled to collaborate on this signature snare.
Keith's key requirement for this snare was that it had to have a wide range of sound applications to meet the varied demands of studio work. He's also long admired brass shell snare drums with an aged or fatigued appearance. So, Gretsch developed a unique aging compound in their South Carolina factory to capture an antique look for the shell. Pairing this vintage patina finish with a 14x5.5” 2mm brass shell laid the foundation of this snare's look and feel.
The Keith Carlock snare drum uses a 20-strand snare wire instead of a 42-strand, in order to increase the dynamics and pitch range. Standard Permatone drumheads, 45-degree bearing edges, 4mm die cast hoops and Gretsch's classic Lightning throw off round out the features on this snare.
Each snare has an inside identification label specifying the year of production and each is signed by Keith himself. And in Keith's words, “This isn’t just another snare drum. It’s unique in so many ways. The ingredients and specifications that we came up with to create the look, the feel, and the sound are just incredible. You have to check this one out!”
