Pampas (2009) earned Lalo Schifrin his fifth Grammy Award in the Best Contemporary Classical Composition category. Commissioned and recorded by Cellist Antonio Lysy, Schifrin described the work as a very moving piece reflecting desolation and the infinite horizons of The Pampas, from his home country of Argentina. Thematic material from the slow movement of Schifrin's Sinfonia Concertante for Guitar and Orchestra provided the springboard foor this haunting and original arrangement for cello and piano.
