You play it by rubbing a wooden stick (included) across the ridges. This guiro is designed with finger and thumb holes in the middle and is hollow on one end for sound projection. The guiro is a percussion instrument commonly used in Latin-American music. The Rhythm Band Guiro is painted with colors of the Mexican flag.
