Pierre Danican-Philidor was a member of the highly respected Danican family of French musicians. He played the oboe, flute and viol and was a member of several orchestras. In the years 1717 and 1718 he published three volumes of music containing altogether twelve suites. The sixth suite (with the movements Lentement Rondeau Sarabande Rigaudon Gigue] is taken from the first volume and is immediately attractive though not too challenging for the player.
