The Grand Pacific body shape produces broad, overlapping notes that blend to create a unified harmony—the sound is microphone-friendly, and well-suited to flatpickers, strummers and fingerstyle players. The solid spruce top blends stiffness and elasticity for a dynamic range with crisp articulation. The back and sides are made of walnut, which is known for its bright tone, tight low end and dynamic sustain. Pairing spruce with walnut gives you a tone that is clear and precise, yet balanced and responsive to a wide variety of playing techniques and styles.

The AD17e’s sound is amplified by the Taylor Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics—the heart of which is a patented behind-the-saddle pickup with three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. Because the pickup doesn't sit under the saddle, the bottom of the saddle comes in full contact with the bridge, allowing all the nuance of the guitar's tone to come through clearly, whether playing acoustically or plugged-in. The ES2 operates through a proprietary 9-volt battery compartment and easy-to-use Volume and active Bass and Treble controls.
