Developing and utilizing alternative resources alongside the traditional and beautiful grenadilla wood has helped to preserve the population of the source tree, the African Blackwood. Most Buffet Crampon student clarinets are made from a lightweight, durable and easily maintained ABS resin, looking and sounding like the traditional instruments. And for the professionals, the R13 Greenline Series of clarinets and oboes marries carbon fiber technology with repurposed grenadilla wood. This “perfect wood” performs equally, withstands temperature swings and daily use without a bend or crack and uses no new grenadilla. A full grenadilla version of the world's most popular clarinet since the 1950's, the R13, is still available as is a full line of accessories.
