Kurt Gemeinhardt was famous throughout Europe, creating handcrafted instruments for the elite musicians. But he was talked into moving to Elkhart, Indiana in 1928 to start his own business. The Gemeinhardt Company was born. They produced fine flutes with the Gemeinhardt name proudly engraved in each. The growing popularity of music participation brought the company into the intermediate and student flute market too. In 1997, Gemeinhardt acquired the similarly esteemed Roy Seaman Piccolo Company and added grenadilla wood piccolos to their line.
Today Gemeinhardt is one of the larger manufacturers of flutes and piccolos in the industry even though many of the instruments are still made in Elkhart. They produce a full line of wooden and synthetic piccolos including the Roy Seaman Storm piccolo that withstands dramatic temperature and humidity changes, perfect for the marching band and travelling performers. They specifically design flutes and piccolos for all levels of play from the experience that only a company of artists and teachers can. The Gemeinhardt series of flutes are world-renowned with educators and professionals alike. They know they can always expect the latest in ergonomics, efficient design and superior performance. The company pride extends to helping the musician maintain excellence with genuine Gemeinhardt accessories, cleaning supplies and replacement parts.
